Welcome to the Fly-Right RC blog section. This is where we will discuss many things related to RC, document builds and cool projects and announce new products/additions to the Fly-Right RC line up.

Update 7/08/2024

Hello all,

We here at Fly-Right RC sincerely appreciate the enthusiasm and positive feed back we have received regarding our Fly-Right Jig! We are pleased that so many have come to discover and love the easy of use it provides, from small EDF’s to very large scale prop and turbine aircraft!

We have lots up updates coming and a new product to announce shortly! A portable version of the Jig that you can easily take with you to the field and adjust the CG of your planes on the go. We are very excited to roll this version of the jig and will be announcing and updating the website very soon so keep watch!

There have been a few changes to the Jig as we using some different materials and some of the pics you see on the website may be different from other. I will also be updating the website to clean some of this up and am planning to take some more photo’s soon showing the jig in use with very large high-end Jets like the Carf 1:375 BAE Hawk.

Other updates include Youtube videos demonstrating the use of our Jig in various situations. Keep watch for these as I believe they will really help showcase how this tool works and how easy it is to use!

Thank you all for the support and we look forward to bringing solutions to the RC hobby through tools like our Jig and others.

Sincerely,

Ben Borkenhagen, Fly-Right RC.

Scale-Jets 1/5 scale F-16 build. 9/05/23

We will be starting a very cool build! I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to build this scale-jets 1/5th scale F-16a, This kit is one of the first original kits produced by www.scale-jets.com. This kit was imported from the Netherlands several years back. We will be doing a full build thread on this plane. Follow along with us on this cool journey!

Fly-Right Jig revisions 8/25/2023

Made a few minor changes to the readout and how it is mounted. Both readouts now sit inside a bezel. It’s a much cleaner look and allows for a more solid feel when pressing the buttons on the readout.

The second thing I changed was on the gantry’s. All gantry’s will now be made out of a machinable plastic. We smoothed out the shape some too. Looks much better, is lighter and creates a better finished product.

Any units shipped after 8/25/2023 will have these changes.

Achieving Perfect Balance: How to balance an RC aircraft using the Xicoy CG Meter and Fly-Right RC Jig for Your RC Airplane

When it comes to flying RC airplanes, achieving proper balance is paramount for optimal performance and stability. The Xicoy CG meter and the Fly-Right RC jig have emerged as indispensable tools in the world of remote-controlled aviation. In this guide, we will delve into the process of balancing an RC plane and explore how these tools play a pivotal role in enhancing your flying experience.

Balancing Your RC Plane: The Key to Success

Balancing an RC plane involves finding the center of gravity (CG), which is the point where the aircraft remains stable in flight. An improperly balanced plane can exhibit erratic behavior, affecting control responsiveness and overall flight characteristics. The Xicoy CG meter and the Fly-Right RC jig offer an effective solution to this challenge.

Why Use the Xicoy CG Meter?

The Xicoy CG meter is a sophisticated device designed to accurately determine the CG of your RC airplane. Its precision and ease of use make it a favorite among enthusiasts and professionals alike. This meter ensures that your aircraft’s weight is evenly distributed, resulting in improved stability and maneuverability.

Enhancing Precision with the Fly-Right RC Jig

The Fly-Right RC jig is a companion tool specifically designed to work seamlessly with the Xicoy CG meter. This jig holds your aircraft securely in place, allowing for precise and repeatable measurements using the digital positioning readouts. With the Fly-Right RC jig, you can quickly and consistently achieve accurate dimension input for the Xicoy CG Meter and perfect balance, ensuring consistent flight performance.

Balancing with or Without Fuel: The Best Approach

One common question is whether to balance an RC plane with or without fuel. The best method is to balance your aircraft dry, or without any fuel or smoke in the tanks. Make sure your fuel tank is in front of the CG point and that your smoke tank is on the CG point. Balancing this way ensures you are slightly nose heavy when full of fuel and smoke. As you use fuel and the tanks empty you come back to the perfect balance point you found with the Fly-Right Jig and Xicoy CG Meter. If you were to balance your plane wet or with fuel you would risk becoming tail heavy as you use fuel during flight.

Stability Matters: Making Your RC Plane More Stable

Stability is crucial for a successful and enjoyable flight experience. A well-balanced RC airplane responds predictably to control inputs and handles turbulence with ease. By utilizing the Xicoy CG meter and the Fly-Right RC jig, you can fine-tune the balance of your aircraft, making it more stable and capable of handling various flight conditions, fast and easy!

Center of Gravity: Where Should It Be?

The center of gravity is a critical factor that determines how your RC airplane behaves in the air. It’s generally recommended to position the CG slightly ahead of the aircraft’s neutral point. This ensures the plane remains stable and prevents tendencies for stalls or nose-dives. The Xicoy CG meter and the Fly-Right RC jig aid in finding this optimal CG position with precision and ease.
